Acceptable & Unacceptable Materials

If you unsure which stream a material should be sorted into, please contact our Customer Service.  Another great resource is the City of Whitehorse's Waste Sorting App. It will let you know how to properly dispose of all types of waste in the City.  These lists are subject to change.

Paper Stream

For all household paper-fibre material. Please place material in the yellow bag.

  • newsprint

  • cardboard

  • boxboard

  • office/printer paper

  • envelopes

  • coloured paper

  • magazines

  • catalogues

  • telephones books.

Container Stream

For all household non-paper fibre material. Please place material in the clear bags.

  • tin

  • beverage containers

  • glass

  • Styrofoam

  • Plastics #1-#7

  • Aluminum foil or trays

  • milk jugs and cartons.

Not Accepted

Please do not include any of the following materials. It may result in collection being refused. Please check out the City's Waste Sorting App to find the appropriate place to dispose of the materials.

  • any soiled or dirty material

  • paper towel

  • facial tissues

  • Household Hazardous Waste

  • E-waste

  • Manufactured Goods

  • Organics.
